Thank YOU!

Below is a letter of thanks to the Crossroads Congregation.

January 12, 2010

Dear Crossroads United Methodist Church,

I wanted to sincerely thank you for your generous contribution towards our foster care Christmas party on December 16, 2009. Nearly 80 youth and their placement providers came together to celebrate the holiday season with delicious food, great entertainment and activities, and absolutely phenomenal gifts. The tremendous success of this event could not have been realized without the wonderful support from you and the community.

Cabarrus County considers the partnership between you and the Department of Social Services priceless. With your help, we were able to give each foster child of Cabarrus County a very Merry Christmas. I look forward to partnering with you again for our Christmas party in 2010. Information concerning the event should be sent out around September 2010.

On behalf of the entire foster care and adoption team and the foster children and families, thank you so much for your giving this year. I appreciate the vital role you play in serving the children and families involved with the foster care system of Cabarrus County.

Best Regards,

Robert Ellis

Family Promise Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help with the Family Promise Outreach starting this Sunday, January 24-31.

Family Promise is a program for homeless families with children. They stay at a different church each week and will be staying in the NexGen building during Crossroads host week. We will have 2 families this upcoming week. There will be 3 adults, 5 children and 1 infant.

There are opportunities to provide dinner and eat with the guests on:

Sunday and Thursday
A
hot breakfast on Saturday morning is needed
** Money has been budgeted to help offset the cost of providing the meals.

Overnight hosts are needed on Wednesday and Friday nights

Evening Hosts- The families retire to their rooms relatively early, but we would like to have people come in to help fill the gap from the time the Dinner Host leaves until the Overnight Host arrives. This would be from about 7:00- 8:30. There is a single mother with 5 children who will be with us again. She was a wonderful guest the last time we hosted and she's a sweet young lady who is overwhelmed, but trying very hard to make it. We will also have a new family who is grateful to be in the program. This is an easy opportunity to help people from our community as they are in transition to their own home.

Please contact Tami Gilman if you are interested in helping in any way at tgilman@bellsouth.net.

More information can be found at http://www.xroadschurch.us/missions/local-outreach/family-promise.php

In Sympathy

Please pray for comfort and strength for Connie Bower and her family due to the death of her Mother this morning, Jan 20. The family is in town now, but will be traveling to West Virginia in a few days for the service and burial. Please cover them in prayer.

UMCOR LEADER DIES IN HAITI
United Methodists are mourning the death of the Rev. Sam W. Dixon Jr., the head of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) who died last week in Haiti. Sam died during the rescue from the ruins of the Hotel Montana

UMVIM LEADER DIES IN HOSPITAL
It is with deep regret that we now share the news of Clint Rabb's passing overnight. Clint underwent surgery upon his return from Haiti and died while in ICU. Clint was injured in the Hotel Montana when it collapsed in Tuesday’s earthquake.

Please keep Sam’s and Clint's family in your prayers. After the good news of the rescue, we are devastated.

National Disaster Medica Assistant Teams to Haiti

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is requesting physicians of specific specialities to deploy with the National Disaster Medical Assistance teams to Haiti. The need is for trauma surgeons, orthopedists, anesthesiologists, and others with experience in treating crush injuries. Volunteers must be able to serve for at least 2 weeks, and be willing to live and work in spartan conditions.

Preference will be given to physicians who are Creole or French speakers, and to those currently credentialed through the Medical Reserve Corps in their home state, or the ESAR-VHP program (Emergency Services Advanced Registration of Volunteer Health Personnel).

These volunteers will need to be credentialed as temporary federal employees and will need to be able to provide credentialing paperwork as soon as asked. Credentialing normally takes about a week. Volunteers with these clinical skills should contact Michala Koch at Michala.Koch@hhs.gov. Not everyone who wishes to help will necessarily be deployed, and those without the requisite skills may not receive a direct response.

For medical professionals wishing to help in this way in future relief efforts, please take a few minutes to learn about the Medical Reserve Corps, identify your local unit, and register to become part of the corps. To do so, visit www.medicalreservecorps.gov <http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov> . This is the channel through which medical volunteers are deployed immediately following an event, and only those registered beforehand are likely to be deployed.
