Hunter H’s background
Hunter’s wish is to go to Disney World, because he has never been out of N.C.. Hunter is a cousin of our Girl Scout Troop leader. Our Troop wants to help ‘grant his wish’. He has been diagnosed with an incurable, rare, genetic disease called M.E.L.A.S.. This disease causes his body to not use food that he eats, therefore, he isn’t growing and his organs aren’t either. He has had many seizures and 2 confirmed strokes from M.E.L.A.S.. His 2cd stroke happened around July 4th, he and his family spent their entire vacation at the beach in the hospital. This stroke has affected his sight a little. Doctors can’t prevent/stop the seizures or the strokes. He is 8 years old and only weighs 36 pounds. The doctors say children with this disease can live to be 32 years old, however Hunter is showing more advanced symptoms. In May, his doctors put a feeding tube directly in his stomach with hope it would help, so far it has not. Hunter will not recover from this disease and his condition is getting grimmer by the day. His mother just sold their house, because Hunter’s bedroom and bathroom were on the 2cd floor and most days, he didn’t have the strength to walk up the stairs, therefore he had to be carried.---Hunter’s father was killed when he was only 2, and his mother (Sandra) found out she was pregnant with their 3rd child, one month after she lost her husband. Sandra’s mother moved in with her while her new baby was young. Sadly, Sandra’s mother passed away from cancer about 2 years ago, before Hunter was diagnosed with M.E.L.A.S.. To make a long story short, there hasn’t been a lot of happiness in Hunter’s life. Our troop would like to make his wish come true, while he can still enjoy it.
Our small Troop of 9 girls hope to raise $6000.00 to ‘grant his wish’ to Disney World. All proceeds that our Troop raises are given to The Make-A-Wish Foundation. PLEASE COME AND HELP GIVE HOPE FOR HUNTER!!!!!!
